The only reason this thread is in the Rant section is because it's the only place anyone looks for comment on UAL jumpseat policies! But, whatever the inequities and shortcomings of their past policies, UA is to be greatly commended for the most recent change, which extends unlimited jumpseating on a space-available basis, first come first served, with no bias against regional airlines as has sometimes been the case in the past.
I'm a right seat biotch so the decision isn't mine, but I'll certainly be doing my best to see that UA jumpseaters on QX ride whenever possible.

I believe their regional carriers will still have priority over other jumpseaters aside from mainline pilots.

That's true, but pretty standard, & I don't think anybody has a problem with that practice. In the past, though, they had a 2-tier system, where Horizon pilots were lower priority than, say, Delta pilots, even though we had unlimited j/s for UA at the time. They did away with that after several regionals threatened to remove them from the j/s list altogether.
